Hello all,
My name is Matthew Brandt-Lazar and I'm excited to be starting this year as a 6th grade Humanities teacher at Stoller.
This is my 7th year teaching. My previous position was at Leadership & Entrepreneurial (LEP) High School in Portland, Oregon. At LEP I taught Advance Placement English, Language Arts, and Social Studies. I did my student teaching at Conestoga Middle School and Merlo Station High School in the Beaverton School District.
Before teaching in the United States I worked for the government of Japan in the JET program, where I taught in Middle and Elementary schools. I lived and worked in rural Japan for three years, teaching English and making friends. This was an amazing experience and informs my teaching and cultural awareness to this day.
I went to school at UCLA and Portland State, graduating with honors from PSU with a Bachelor's degree in History in 2005. After I my work in Japan I attended the School of Education at Portland State and graduated with a Master's in Education in 2010.
I am very passionate about our student's need for a challenging and relevant Humanities education, and I'm looking forward to a great year!
